Prayer for June
"Blessed Jesus, Lifting up holy hands perpetually for all humankind,Breathe by the Spirit such love into all the prayers that we offer,That they may be taken into you and prevail with you. Amen"
Week beginning 1st June
Theme: Israel
Following the month which commemorated the 60th Anniversary of the founding of the State of Israel-
Pray not for Arab or Jew, for Palestinian or Israeli, but rather pray that we do not divide them in our prayers but keep them both together in our hearts.
Week beginning 8th June
Theme: National Carers' Week
Pray for people who have taken on the duty of care for those they love but may feel burdened by the relentless responsibility. Just as Christ needed times of quiet and reflection, may carers receive the chance to be refreshed and cared for and take comfort in God's presence within suffering.
Week beginning 15th June
Theme: Our Church
This week pray for those who preach, using these words from St Augustine
"Almighty God, I am but the basket of the Sower.Grant that those among whom I sow the seed, may look not at the basket, but to the Sower who is Christ himself."
Week beginning 22nd June
Theme: Welcoming
Sixty years ago the SS Empire Windrush landed at Tilbury Docks and bought the first arrivals from Jamaica. For many it was a cold welcome from more than just the climate. At the end of Refugee Week, pray for the perception to see Christ in the stranger we may meet and the love to offer welcome.
Week beginning 29th June
Theme: Hope
Just as Christ's disciples had to wait for the resurrection day, so as we wait for God's promises to be fulfilled may we have patience, travel the road faithfully and seek obedience as we wait for the "third day".
